The case is being brought by all three major publishers (Universal Music Publishing Group, Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music), along with several indie publishers. The suit alleges that X profits handsomely from infringement on compositions on its platform. However, X maintains that blanket licensing agreements with major social media companies like Meta, TikTok and Snapchat do not require such licenses.
