Greenport Cracks Down On Business Owner's Donation Table: 'There Are Far Bigger Issues That Deserve Our Time'

Sharon Sailor, owner of Front Street Station in Greenport, New York, has been ordered to remove her outdoor table and display area from the outdoor area within 10 days or face daily fines ranging from $500 to $2,500 for the first violation, $1,000 to $3,000 for the second violation, and $1.500 for each subsequent violation. Sailor accused the Greenport Village building inspector of "selective enforcement" towards her table, which has been there for six years and has been instrumental in helping homeless people find items they cannot afford. She argued that there are other pressing issues in the community rather than a dedicated donation table.
