Jeffries: ICE officers assisting at airports is ‘last thing’ Americans need

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has criticized the Trump administration's plan to deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to airports starting Monday. Jeffries stated that untrained ICE agents could potentially brutalize or kill them. As the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) remains shut down, employees of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have reported increased security wait times at airports. White House border czar Tom Homan, who appointed to lead the operation, said that ICE officers will assist in providing extra security wherever possible. However, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy countered that the officers are already used to operating X-ray machines at the southern border and will be assisting in managing security lines.
