President Trump has told confidants that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is "begging" for a role in the administration, including attorney general, according to reports from Axios. This comes after DeSantant, who has to leave office at the end of his second term in January, began discussions with Trump about an appointment last year after he was reelected and was considered to lead the Defense Department. However, sources suggest that if Pete Hegseth leaves, Trump would strongly consider DeSanti for the position. DeSanta is currently interested in War Secretary or Supreme Court, but also in consideration for the role. The White House and a spokesperson for the governor declined to comment.
