Georgia nears medical marijuana expansion as synthetic hemp crackdown looms

Georgia lawmakers are considering expanding the state's medical cannabis program and potentially clamping down on synthetic hemp products. The bill would remove the cap on THC in medical cannabis and expand the list of qualifying conditions under the program. A bill by state Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick would require the hemp products to adhere to testing and labeling regulations. Another proposal would lower the limit on Delta-9 THC in drinks from 10mg per serving to 5mg and restrict sales to liquor stores. The potential changes come as cannabis companies lobby for relief from a federal law that could potentially impact the industry.
