Anti Jaczewicz, an 18th-century hermit and false prophet, lived a life in the Polish mountains in the 1700s and hid his treasure trove of medieval coins in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. The discovery of these medieval coins reopened a 300-year-old cold case involving a notorious scammer and robber who used a plague to create a criminal empire. The treasure trove was discovered by history buffs during a search in the mountains in 2024. The coins, which are believed to be a mix of fees collected by the hermit, were all from the 17th and 18th centuries. The most fascinating piece was a gold Hamburg ducat from 1648, which experts believe was once worn as a medallion. The find was turned over to the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and is now being preserved at the Historical and Archaeological Museum in Ostrowiec świżec.
