A poll conducted by Loyola Marymount University has revealed that almost half of Los Angeles voters want a democratic socialist for mayor. The poll, conducted from February 11 to March 16, also puts incumbent Karen Bass in second place with 17% of the vote, followed by progressive councilmember Nithya Raman at 32.5%. About 47.7% of voters wanted a socialist in charge, ahead of other listed types of candidates such as a "moderate, business-oriented Democrat" and "conservative political outsider". The results have been met with surprise and skepticism, with some questioning the accuracy of the poll's sample size. While many are skeptical of the idea that nearly half of LA wants a socialist, there's a kernel of truth that the city has moved left over the past decades.
