New shoreline park to bring nature, ‘justice’ to East Oakland residents

A new park aimed at East Oakland residents will be partially funded by federal funds. The East Bay Regional Park District's $37 million restoration effort will reclaim approximately 28 acres of tidal marsh for indigenous Bay Area flora and fauna, and reintegrate land for residents who had been racially discriminated through housing policies related to redlining. The project will focus on improving water quality and restoring local ecosystems. Oakland Rep. Lateefah Simon, who secured $11.2 million in federal funding, toured the site and said it represents justice for the citizens of East Oakland.
