Comedian Jimmy Kimmel defended his "very light roast" of the White House Correspondents' Dinner (WHCD) in a monologue, stating that it was a joke about the first lady and President Donald Trump's age difference. Kimmel also addressed the first couple's concerns about being fired from their jobs and suggested a conversation about the situation. The incident occurred before suspected gunman Cole Tomas Allen opened fire at the WHCD. An officer wearing a bulletproof vest was shot before Allen was apprehended, and he has been charged with attempting to assassinate the president. Following a suspension from his show in September 2025 over comments on Charlie Kirk's death, ABC offered Kimmel a one-year contract extension.
