Will Quam has written a non-fiction book, "Fire and Clay: How Bricks Reveal the Hidden History of Chicago," about how brick has been a key driver in shaping the city's look since the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The book was inspired by architecture photographer, writer and researcher, Quam, who also gives tours through 12 neighborhoods across the city focused on brick. Despite initial interest in brick began when Quam read a book by Alexandra Horowitz and began researching the subject. He found the subject through a search for books about brick and trade publications, which he used to track the history of the brick industry. Quam also shared his personal experiences with brick industry representatives.
