Richard Elliott, the principal organist for the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, has been performing daily organ recitals at the Saltlake Tabernacles for nearly a century. The recitals, featuring a mix of hymns and classical music, have attracted an estimated 3.5 million people throughout their history. The tradition began in the late 1860s when Joseph J. Daynes, the Tabernac’s first organist, performed impromptu recitals. By 1911, recitals had become a daily fixture. Today, recital takes place every Monday at noon and Sundays at 2 p.m. The daily recitals have stood through two world wars and the Great Depression.
