Low humidity and windy conditions are increasing the risk of fires across Central Florida. In Central Florida, officials have warned that any fire that starts can quickly spread. A home in Sanford was damaged in a fire likely sparked by a grill, but is now uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage. Fire crews are working to contain the Wiygul Road brush fire in Lake County, which has burned approximately 120 acres and is at 85% containment. In Clay County, officials believe the Railroad Fire was started by train sparks. Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson said fires are burning all over Florida and that the peak of Florida’s fires season is usually toward May. Fire officials are urging people to be mindful of burn bans and defensible space around their homes.
