Several not-for-profit arts groups in Glasgow are concerned about being locked out of their premises unless they agree to a large rent hike. The rent at the Trongate 103 building is set to increase by four times the current amount, according to City Property, the Glasgow City Council body that manages the property. City Property insists the proposed rent would be up to five times higher than if a commercial organisation were the tenants. Artists, including charities that help disabled people use art, expressed concern that the rent increase would severely impact their livelihoods. The Glasgow Media Access Centre (GMAC), which uses specialised equipment in the current building, has decided to leave. A protest is planned outside City Property's offices later on Friday.
