The Lake Forest City Council has unanimously approved the construction of a new telecommunications tower by private company Tower North, in an effort to improve cell coverage. The new 160-foot tower will be built near the existing water tower and a ground lease at the city's compost center. The initial lease term is five years, with options for nine more five-year extensions. The city will receive an upfront payment of $125,000 and monthly rent of $500 or 30% of subtenant rental revenue. With the construction, the city expects Verizon to establish a presence at the site. However, while improvements are expected, residents should not anticipate a complete fix.
