Plans to hold Constitutional Convention appear to stall at Oklahoma state Capitol

It appears that plans to rewrite the state Constitution of Oklahoma have stalled at the state Capitol have been thwarted by state legislators. The idea of a Constitutional Convention, which would allow lawmakers to make major revisions to the state's Constitution, was put on a hold after several lawmakers expressed concerns about the power of the convention being held in the hands of elected officials. The proposal would make the Legislature the acting delegates in this convention, giving the House a better than a 2:1 margin of delegates. However, state Sen. Mary Boren expressed concern that Republicans would be the only voices included in the convention, while Senate Pro Temp Lonnie Paxton expressed concern about placing the convention on an already busy November ballot. The convention would require voter approval and will die if it does not make it out of committee by this Thursday.
