An ordinance proposed by Metro councilwoman Tammy Hawkins in the Public Safety Committee would tighten regulations for safety at late-night businesses in the city of Louisville, aiming to prevent repeat incidents of incidents that compromise customers' safety. Hawkins argues that the current framework around nuisance businesses isn't consistent and that clearer regulations would allow clearer regulations and avoid permanent mandates. She proposes that businesses that become nuisance or a site for criminal activity should have security before they're shut down. The proposal has been in committee for months and Hawkins hopes to get it to the full council. The Louisville Hospitality Association supports the legislation, arguing that existing laws allow for concealed carry in Kentucky and that an additional cost should be up to the discretion of the owner, not an imposed mandate by the city.
