Marathon Petroleum Corporation, a California oil refinery based in Ohio, has sent an urgent letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom warning of the consequences of supporting the Cap-and-Invest program. The proposal, proposed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), aims to tighten the state's climate policies and increase corporate transparency in 2026. Key measures include amendments to the Cap.and-invest Program to accelerate greenhouse gas reductions and new rules requiring large companies to report emissions and climate-related financial risks. The company warned that these measures could undermine the security of California’s fuel supply and create significant economic, workforce, and national-security consequences.
