The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has reintroduced seasonal beach restrictions for the start of the snowy plover nesting season, which will run from March 15 to September 15. The restrictions are intended to help the endangered birds reproduce safely. The department has published maps of the current nesting areas on the state's northern and southern coastline, which make up 40 miles of Oregon's 352-mile shoreline. While visitors can still explore the beaches around restricted nesting areas, foot traffic and equestrian traffic is only permitted below the high tide line on hard-packed sand. Other restrictions include dogs (even on leashes), drones, vehicles, bikes, and e-bikes, and kites.
