Toyota recalls 550K vehicles over seat-back locking issue
Published on March 12, 2026.
Toyota is recalling 550,000 vehicles from 2021 to 2024 due to a seat-back locking issue. The issue affects 420,771 Highlander and 129,236 Highlander Hybrid vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHT) has issued a notice stating that second-row seat backs may fail to lock properly during adjustments, increasing the risk of injury during a crash. All affected owners will be notified by a Toyota dealer, who will replace the faulty return springs in the recliner assemblies with improved ones.
