A bipartisan pair of Ohio lawmakers have reintroduced legislation aimed at advancing research and development of modern airships for cargo transportation, disaster response, and humanitarian aid delivery. The Airship Improvement Research for Safety and Humanitarian Innovation Projects (AIRSHIP) Act would authorize the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to research how airships can improve safety, reduce noise and environmental impact, and enhance resiliency in aviation systems. The bill also allows NASA to award competitive grants to research teams from universities, industry, and government to advance next-generation airship technologies. The legislation has received endorsements from Goodyear and the University of Akron.
