The MLBPA has responded to a poll by The Athletic that 68 percent of fans prefer a salary cap and a salary floor, a system that has traditionally been a non-starter for players. However, interim executive director Bruce Meyer believes it would be detrimental for fans as it restricts teams' ability to improve their teams. He also noted that the current system allows the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets to spend more, making it difficult for smaller market teams to compete. The debate over whether a cap or a floor system should be kept in place is likely to lead to another lockout in the sport.
