Suzanne Luhr, a lifelong Wyoming resident, became a powerlifting champion after she was hit by a truck in her 50s. The accident left her with a broken femur and left her out of work for a month, but also put her on the path to becoming a champion powerlifter and a sponsored athlete. Today, Luhr is one of five ambassadors for AARP's Senior Planet initiative, which sponsors athletes over 60 who have proven that age does not need to be a barrier for wellbeing. The initiative was designed to celebrate the enduring spirits of active older adults across the US. Luhr's participation in the Wyoming Senior Olympics has been exciting, but she admits to feeling unwell during workouts.
