Pittsburgh lawmakers are introducing legislation in the City Council to limit the city's cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The legislation would ensure that police cannot ask anyone's immigration status, including when someone is detained, and would also require city police to ask for identification from those who appear to look like ICE agents. It would also create safe spaces in the city, with facilities from police stations to rec centers not being available for ICE use. The legislation will be introduced and will be discussed at a meeting next Wednesday.
