Fourteen countries from West Africa gathered for a four-day regional simulation exercise (SIMEX) in Dakar, aimed at strengthening preparedness and response to filovirus outbreaks like Ebola and Marburg. The event was hosted by the Senegal Ministry of Health and Africa CDC at the WHO Regional Emergency Hub in Dakan. Over 40 participants included experts in case management, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), infection prevention and control (IPC), and logistics. All member states were represented by senior officials from their Ministries of Health. The simulation was conducted inside the Infectious Diseases Treatment Module (IDTM), a medical facility developed through INITIATE² to support the response to infectious disease outbreaks. The success of the SIMEX was praised by participants and the WHO Dakar Hub team for supporting local procurement, logistics, and transportation.
