Suspect pleads not guilty after being charged with murder of sisters killed in Hollywood house fire

Jovan Lamar Duverne, a suspected serial arsonist, has been charged with two murders in connection with a Hollywood house fire that killed two elderly sisters. He has been also charged with 11 counts of felony arson related to the arson. Prosecutors allege he set fires at 10 locations across Hollywood between Jan. 26 and Feb. 2026 before embarking on a dangerous arson spree. If convicted as charged, he faces up to death or life in state prison without parole. The case is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division and the Angeles Fire Department's Arson Counter Terrorism Section.
