Nat Sec Watchdog Sounds Alarm On Dangers Lying Behind Crypto

National Security Watchdog, POLARIS National Security, has urged Congress to treat cryptocurrency as a national security issue rather than an economic concern. The Senate is considering the CLARITY Act, which would tighten regulations on cryptocurrency both domestically and abroad. The group has issued five policy recommendations for the administration, including expanding enforcement tools for sanctions evasion, increasing oversight of U.S. adversaries, and closing gaps that allow offshore accounts to move illicit funds. The central message of these recommendations is that cryptocurrency firms operating in the US should be subject to the same regulations as banks. Cryptocurrency has been used by countries such as North Korea, Russia, and Iran to evade economic sanctions and process payments beyond the reach of law enforcement and banks. The Treasury Department has recently targeted Iranian assets, with Iranian assets recently frozen.
