Vietnam holds general election, 93% candidates from ruling Communist Party

Vietnamese voters have voted for members of the National Assembly, the country's top legislative body, with nearly 93% of the 864 parliamentary candidates being from the ruling Communist Party. The election, held in a five-year period, will see over 73 million voters elect 500 members and representatives for local councils. The Communist Party holds 97 percent of the parliamentary seats. The opening plenary session will take place in early April, with lawmakers expected to approve the state’s top leaders previously nominated by the party.
