President Donald Trump has hinted that he may have considered naming the Gulf of America after himself, but decided not to do so as it wouldn't "play well" due to the US controlling about 46% of the shoreline of the Gulf. The president had previously taken executive action last year to rename the "Gulf of Mexico" as the "gulf of America". He also had previously suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself or rechristening it the "Strait of America." On Sunday, he announced a blockade of the critical oil chokepoint in response to Iran's claim that it had lost track of mines in the area.
