Police and city officials in Oakland have announced that violent crime has decreased by 22 percent so far this year, with overall crime down 29 percent. This includes homicides, aggravated assaults, robberies, and rapes. Between Jan. 1 and March 31, there were 14 homicides, a decrease of 39 percent from the same time last year, and overall aggravated assaults were down 13 percent.
