Cedric Ricks, a death row inmate in Texas, is set to be executed for the murder of his girlfriend and her 8-year-old son, Roxann Sanchez, after an argument turned physical in May 2013. Ricks stabbed them repeatedly before turning the knife on Sanchez's 12-year old son, Marcus, who survived the attack. The Texas Attorney General's Office described the attack as "a nightmarish episode of brutality". Ricks was convicted of capital murder after a two-week trial where Marcus testified against him. If successful, Ricks will be the sixth inmate executed in the U.S. this year and the second in Texas.
