The United States Postal Service (PSP) is on a financial precipice, with Postmaster General David Steiner warning that the agency could run dry by October and potentially halt mail delivery altogether by 2027 if Congress does not act. This comes as the USPS continues its losing streak, losing $1.3 billion this year and losing $9 billion in the last fiscal year. The agency hasn't made a profit since 2007 and has been unable to meet certain obligations like retirement benefits at current levels. Steiner is urging Congress to loosen the purse strings allowing USPS to borrow more money and also support potential postage hikes and regulatory reforms. Amazon is reportedly planning to reduce the number of packages it sends through USPS after failing to reach a new contract extension.
