Trump's Iran threats alarm war crimes experts

Donald Trump's threats to bomb power stations and desalination plants in Iran could lead to the creation of a "rogue state," according to former U.S. ambassador-at-large for war crimes issues, Stephen J. Rapp, who served as chief of prosecutions at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and chief prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone from 2007 to 2009, warned that the threats alone could represent a possible war crime. On Monday, Trump threatened to destroy civilian energy infrastructure and desalinization plants if Iran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz and agree to end the war the United States and Israel launched a month ago. It is unclear whether he will uphold his threat to destroy these civilian infrastructure.
