Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has defended himself by repeating a controversial joke he made about first lady Melania Trump, which he described as "hateful" and "déjà vu", in an attempt to defend himself following a failed assassination attempt on President Trump's life at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Kimmel explained that his mock roast was intended to mimic those given out at the event, which was later cancelled due to security concerns. He insisted that the joke was about the age difference between the first lady and the joy they see when they're together.
