A new analysis by the Ohio Education Policy Institute has revealed that while Ohio school districts are less than usual, the number of school districts seeking income taxes is the highest since 2020. The May 5 primary election will have 65 total tax issues, lower than any other primary since 2020, according to the study. The trend is likely due to record-high home values resulting in higher property taxes for homeowners in over half of Ohio's districts, which only collect 20 millennials, allowing them to collect more money when values increase. In Cuyahoga County, five districts have tax questions on the May 5 ballot, including Parma and Independence, with both proposing new earned-income taxes. The study also revealed that about a third of Ohio’s 609 school districts have income taxes, most often used in rural areas where farmers have moderate incomes.
