Taylor Swift has filed three trademark applications to protect her identity in the age of AI, following footsteps of actor Matthew McConaughey who secured similar trademarks in 2025. The trademark applications were spotted by intellectual-property attorney Josh Gerben of Gerben IP. They suggest that these trademark protections provide additional legal remedies beyond traditional right-of-publicity claims to fight against AI-generated content that misappropriates someone's likeness. The trademarks could potentially be used to defend Swift's name, image and likeness rights, as an actor or artist with such trademark protections could issue takedown claims against an AI platform similar to a studio's.
