A mediation session between Lorain County Job and Family Services union representatives and county officials failed to produce a new contract agreement. This is the first formal talks between the two sides since January. Approximately 120 union members have been on strike since Feb. 18 following months of stalled negotiations. The striking workers include employees responsible for administering SNAP and Medicaid benefits, Ohio Works First cash assistance, adult protective services and childcare assistance. The union is awaiting further action from the State Employment Relations Board, which is investigating an unfair labor practice charge filed by the union in February. Despite the strike, county leaders maintain services remain operational.
