Kenneth Schlenker, founder of screen time management app Opal, has seen a surge in new users following the trial that found Meta and Google liable for intentionally designing their platforms to attract young people. The majority of Opal's 10 million users are students who have grown up with social media. The trial resulted in a verdict in favor of a 20-year-old woman who argued that the apps were deliberately built to be addictive. The tech giants were found liable for $3 million in compensatory damages and $3M in punitive damages. Both Google and Meta have stated they disagree with the verdict and will appeal.
