A historic first strike challenge was ... upheld!

On Opening Night, New York Yankees shortstop José Caballero initiated the first Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge in a major league game, challenging home-plate umpire Bill Miller's strike call on Giants starter Logan Webb's pitch. The system has been used in the Minor Leagues since 2022 and was approved by the Joint Competition Committee last September. Each team is given two challenges per game, which are broadcast on the stadium video board.
