The St Matthews Community Centre in Leicester, England, has been threatened by the city council to close its current site and move the library to a smaller venue due to unsafe concrete in the building. A petition to save the centre has over 1,800 signatures. The centre, which provides a sports ground and community space for families living in one of the East Midlands' most deprived neighbourhoods, was described as a "lifeline" for those with disabilities. Hamdi Ahmed, who has cerebral palsy, expressed concern over the potential impact on her own life if the centre were closed. The council has stated that all services will be relocated, but no plans have been decided for the current building.
