The Sonos Era 300 vs. Denon Home 400, or Denon's new generation speakers, may be changing the way multi-room speakers are being marketed. The Sonos era 300 costs around $479, while the Denon home 400 costs $599 in the US. However, these speakers take slightly different approaches to sound tuning, physical connectivity, and ecosystem integration. The Era 300 can also be used as a rear surround speaker when paired with Sonos soundbars, a feature useful for home theater users without having to deal with speaker wire. However the Sonos and Denon have different audio profiles, with the Home 400 offering a more neutral presentation with stronger low-mids and smoother highs. The latter has a USB-C port on the back of the back, which allows for more physical connectivity without requiring an Ethernet or Ethernet line-in or other physical controls.
