Consumer confidence in the United States fell to an all-time low this month, largely due to anxiety over the Iran war. The University of Michigan's long-running Survey of Consumers tracks how Americans feel about the economy, personal finances, and spending. The preliminary data showed that consumer sentiment dropped by 11% to a historic low of 47.6, a level below anything recorded in the post-World War II era. The final reading of April was 49.8, but it remained below last month's 53.3. This is not the first time this level has been recorded. Despite this, consumer spending appears to have remained steady, indicating that household finances are well-received.
