The death of 3-year-old Marcus Fiesel, a nonverbal autistic child, has been commemorated 20 years since his death. Fiesel was found dead on August 4, 2006 in a closet in Clermont County, Ohio. His parents, David and Liz Carroll, hid him in the closet without food or water for nearly 30 hours while attending a family reunion in Kentucky. The couple then covered Fiesel's body in a blanket and put it in a large box, then drove it to an abandoned chimney in Brown County before setting it on fire. The Carrolls were charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering children. David Carroll took a plea deal and was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison for murder and abuse of a corpse. His wife, Liz Carroll was sentenced for involuntary manslaughter, murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, endangering kids, false alarm, inducing panic and perjury. The case led to significant changes in local foster care.
