An executive from SK Group's U.S.-based AI subsidiary, Solidigm, has warned that increasing demand for data could cause tight storage chip supplies. This follows predictions by the chairman of SK Group that high-bandwidth memory shortages could last until 2030. The demand for storage chips is high as new AI-powered software tools can make sense of large datasets that humans cannot easily access. However, this has led to increased demand for solid state drives, with Greg Matson, senior vice president at Solidigm stating that AI systems coming later this year could require 35% more storage.
