Indiana University professor Raiford Guins has written a new book, "King Pong: How Atari Bounced Across Markets to Make Millions," which he believes is the most important video game of all time. The book, which focuses on the marketing and design of Atari's Pong in 1972, argues that the reason we have video games in our living rooms, smartphones, and Google Doodles traces back to a deliberate design and marketing strategy the company used over 50 years ago. The author reframates the Pong story around business, focusing on how Atari created an entirely new product category rather than just a new device.
