State Sen. Terence Everitt, a Wake County Democrat, has announced he will resign from the North Carolina legislature effective May 1 to focus on voting rights advocacy. Everitt has served in the General Assembly since 2018 and won election to the Senate in 2024 by just 128 votes. His district is expected to be one of the most contested in 2026. His resignation comes amid ongoing debate in the legislature over election laws, property taxes, and a state budget. Evertt plans to continue advocating for voting rights outside of elected office.
