For Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Roshini Rajapaksa, a gastroenterologist at NYU Langone Health, has shared some of the top digestive health myths. These myths include that too much fiber can cause bloating and pain if consumed too quickly, and that it can be replaced with added water. She recommends that 25-30 grams of fiber should be consumed daily for health benefits such as lower cholesterol, weight management and blood sugar control. If you think you have Celiac Disease, stop eating gluten before being tested. The gold standard for diagnosis is an upper endoscopy with biopsies of the small intestine. The current recommended age for colon cancer screening is 45.
