Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is considering reducing 13 contract days for school psychologists to help address a budget deficit. School psychologists argue these days are crucial for assessing students with disabilities and preventing delays in service. The school board initially rejected the proposed cuts, but has now asked the superintendent to renegotiate a new plan. The changes to the Exceptional Child Education division, which provides services for students with educational disabilities, are the final central office cuts to be approved by the board as Jefferson County seeks to address its $188 million deficit. Some school psychologists argue that fewer workdays will result in "delay of service" for students. The proposed reduction in days would save JCPS money without sacrificing student services.
