J. K. Rowling, known for her iconic role in the Harry Potter book series and other popular culture, has become an internationally hated villain due to her outspoken defense of women's rights and biological reality. In June 2020, she published a controversial essay defending women’s rights and expressed concerns about the dangers of allowing men into female private spaces. The author has faced backlash since publishing the essay in which she argued that trans activism is threatening the rights of women globally and is pushing to erode the legal definition of sex and replace it with gender. Despite this, Rowling has faced physical threats and financial support from trans activists for her stance against gender ideology. She has also supported a group that won a U.K. Supreme Court case in 2025 that clarified the definition of “woman” should be based on biological sex in the UK” in relation to the U.
