Pivot Bio, a $2 billion agriculture firm, has moved its headquarters from California to the Twin Cities to be closer to customers and partners. The company, which makes bacterial microbes that provide farmers with a cheaper and cleaner way to fertilize crops, previously made its products in California. The microbes, applied onto seeds, help plants absorb vital nitrogen without leaching it into the environment, unlike common fertilizer. They have been used on more than 15 million corn acres and several hundred thousand acres of Minnesota farmland. Pivot Bio has raised over $600 million from investors, including large companies such as Bunge and Bayer.
