Brent Headrick, a Yankees reliever, was born into a family of drag racers and grew up racing at a track near his childhood home in Braidwood, Ill. He began his career as a pit crew member for his dad and sister, Ashley, who won Junior Dragster championships when they were younger. However, as baseball became a serious sport, drag racing became a spectator sport. Headrick is currently competing for a spot in the Yankees' bullpen this spring, where he has averaged 94 mph with his four-seamer and recorded a 3.13 ERA and 32.6 K% over 17 big league games last year. Despite his high velocity fluctuations last year, the Yankees believe these fluctuations were due to a transition from being a starter to a reliever. Despite these challenges, Headrick remains confident in his readiness for the bullpen role and believes he will be able to manage workload and prepare better for the winter season.
